Horsham 1 suffer narrow defeat against Worthing 1

Horsham 1 suffered a narrow defeat at home last night against a strong Worthing 1 side. All the Horsham players has their chances but only one was able to fully take advantage, while a couple crashed to defeat.

Anthony Higgs sacrificed a pawn in the opening and build up decent pressure for a pawn. However, an oversight in a complicated position led to him having to give up his queen for a rook and minor piece, which proved inadequare compensation.

Gavin Lock built up a promising position with Black in the Sicilian, as his opponent Russell Granat chose an inferior continuation against his unusual line. However, he allow his advantage to slip away, and the game ended as a draw.

Horsham 1 vs Worthing 1 match score: 0.5 - 1.5

James Mansson gained a good position with the Black pieces against Alec Hedger, as his opponent's king was awkwardly placed in the centre. There were a few twists and turns, as Black's advantage increased and decreased; these included a mutual oversight, as Black failed to take full advantage of a blunder of White's. In the end, White cracked with both players running very short of time; Black was able to wrap the game up in fairly short order.

Mark Broom seemd to have a decent position against Matthew Payne; however, things gradually seemed to go downhill and eventually he lost, in the last game to finish.
