The junior club will return on September 13th at the usual time of 6:25pm-7:25pm. I will present the shields for last year's competitions and we will kick off another season of fun and learning - see you then!
Local congresses are being held in Crawley and Crowborough to start the season...
In 2007 Horsham C.C. member Steve Baines posed the question of what had then been the highest grades reached by Horsham players. He wondered how long the grading system has been in existence and how strong Horsham teams could have been, had the club’s leading players during the grading era all been available at the same time. I delved into the archives, and on 11th November 2007 wrote about these issues, choosing an arbitrary cut-off point of grades above 160, in order to limit the size of the task.

Several Horsham players took part in the annual Weald Congress last weekend, here are their results...
Another great season with all our club tournaments fought to the very end!
Well done to all the winners...and better luck next year if the silverware escaped you on this occasion!
See you next at the first meeting of the new season on Tuesday 6th September.
We have a bonus week of chess at the end of the season so the last night will now be Tuesday 5 July with the committee meeting the week after.
After that you will be playing chess at home :)
As usual we will meet again on the first week in September which is Tuesday 6 September so see you then.
In a marathon evening of Quickplay chess not one , not two but three rounds were played with the winner of the competition being decided.
Firstly I played Brian Donnelly and despite getting excellent chances in the first game fell easy prey in the second and was despatched 2-0.
Then Anthony Higgs took on Brian...
Horsham Chess Club has an unofficial venue for post match analysis ... The Malt Shovel pub just across the road.
We were therefore heartened to see the well deserved award which was won recently. Congratulations to them , it certainly makes our chess year more fun!
Horsham 1 made a masterful second in the MSL Division 1 with Horsham 2 achieving a very creditable sixth position, ahead of Crowbough 1 and Haywards Heath 1.
In the second division Horsham 3 just missed out on promotion, coming third. Horsham 4 had a tough season and will be relegated for next season.
The third division saw Horsham 5 come fourth and Horsham 6 ended bottom of the league this season.
The club played a total of 253 games in the MSL scoring 130 points. Well done to all those involved,
